In 1933 Rivenhall parish was abolished and its area was absorbed into the urban district of Witham.<ref>{{cite web |title=Rivenhall Parish |url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10245795 |website=A Vision of Britain through Time |publisher=GB Historical GIS / University of Portsmouth |access-date=29 October 2025}}</ref> Witham Urban District was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, when the area became part of the new Braintree district.<ref>{{cite legislation UK|type=si|si=The English Non-metropolitan Districts (Definition) Order 1972|year=1972|number=2039|access-date=31 May 2023}}</ref><ref>{{cite legislation UK|type=si|si=The English Non-metropolitan Districts (Names) Order 1973|year=1973|number=551|access-date=31 May 2023}}</ref> The area of the pre-1974 urban district became unparished as a result of the 1974 reforms. Three new civil parishes covering the area of the old urban district were subsequently created in 1982: Witham, Rivenhall, and Silver End. The new parish created in 1982 is therefore smaller than the pre-1933 parish, with Silver End being a separate parish.<ref>{{cite web |title=The Braintree (Parishes) Order 1981 |url=https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ukgwa/20221202003249mp_/https://s3-eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/lgbce/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/12203/braintree-parishes-order-1981.pdf |website=Local Government Boundary Commission for England |publisher=The National Archives |access-date=28 October 2025}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/braintree.html|title=Braintree Registration District|publisher=UKBMD|accessdate=5 March 2024}}</ref>
