Rigby Wason

{{Short description|Scottish barrister, farmer, and politician}} {{Use dmy dates|date=February 2017}} {{Use British English|date=February 2017}} '''(Peter) Rigby Wason''' (1797 – 24 July 1875)<ref name="rayment-hc">{{Rayment-hc|i|date=March 2012}}</ref> was a Scottish barrister and farmer,<ref name="nz-bio-dict">{{DNZB|Pawson|Eric|2W10|Wason, John Cathcart|11 January 2010}}</ref> and a Whig politician. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich in Suffolk from 1831 until his defeat at the 1835 general election. However, the election was declared void on petition,<ref name="craig1832-1885">{{cite book |last=Craig |first=F. W. S. |authorlink= F. W. S. Craig |title=British parliamentary election results 1832–1885 |orig-date=1977 |edition= 2nd |year=1989 |publisher= Parliamentary Research Services |location=Chichester |isbn= 0-900178-26-4 |page=162 }}</ref> and he was returned to the House of Commons at the resulting by-election, holding the seat until he was defeated again at the 1837 general election.<ref name="craig1832-1885" />

He regained the seat at the 1841 general election, but that election was overturned on petition and he did not stand again.<ref name="craig1832-1885" />
