He was born in Aldershot in 1978.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2011/dec/30/rise-of-poetronica/|title=The rise of poetronica|author=Kieran Yates|work=the Guardian|date=30 December 2011 |accessdate=10 February 2015}}</ref>

==Published work== His first book 'Story the Flowers' was made at Calvert's Co-Operative Press in Bethnal Green in 2010. The work is constructed within the tradition of psychogeography and of the city wanderer or flaneur and has been re-imagined and cited as influence for other artists, most recently East India Youth in the naming of his album, 'Culture of Volume', taken from the poem 'Monument'.

Often collaborating with artists in other fields,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.thefourohfive.com/news/article/music-s-collaborator-rick-holland|title=Music's Collaborator: Rick Holland|work=The 405}}</ref> his most notable collaborative pieces have been with Brian Eno and released on Warp Records. He co-wrote the 2011 album ''Drums Between the Bells'' and the album's sister EP ''Panic of Looking''.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15598-drums-between-the-bells/|title=Brian Eno|work=Pitchfork|accessdate=10 February 2015}}</ref> Significant writing credits also include the Brian Eno/Karl Hyde album ''High Life'' released in June 2014. He has also co-created work for theatre and dance,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://tomdale.org.uk/productions/refugees-of-the-septic-heart/|title=Refugees of the Septic Heart|work=tomdale.org.uk}}</ref> installations with Brian Eno <ref>{{cite web|url=http://thelatest.co.uk/7/review-brian-enos-speaker-flower-sound-installation|title=Latest 7 » Review: Brian Eno's Speaker Flower Sound Installation|work=thelatest.co.uk}}</ref> and visual artist Anya Gallaccio.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.southlondongallery.org/page/motherlode|title=After The Goldrush - Talks & Events - South London Gallery|work=southlondongallery.org}}</ref>

The works with Eno led to the coining of the term 'poetronica' in the press, a term suggesting that evolving digital literacy continues to change conventional literary narrative<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2011/dec/30/rise-of-poetronica|title=The rise of poetronica|author=Kieran Yates|work=The Guardian|date=30 December 2011 |accessdate=10 February 2015}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.electronicbeats.net/en/features/conversations/steven-levy-skypes-with-rick-holland/|title=Steven Levy skypes with Rick Holland|work=electronicbeats.net|accessdate=10 February 2015}}</ref> and recent work with Robert Thomas (former Chief Creative Officer for RjDj) seeks to further explore new and non-linear formats for writing and reading poems.

An exclusive piece, "I Remember" is included in Jon Hopkins' 2015 compilation ''Late Night Tales''.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=27773 |title=RA News: Jon Hopkins mixes LateNightTales |publisher=Residentadvisor.net |date= |accessdate=2015-06-01}}</ref>

He was in the academy at Sussex County Cricket Club to senior level, just falling short of playing for the county itself. He also captained England Schools' South of England Under-15s team.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/18257118.keighley-sign-former-england-schools-u15s-captain/|title=Keighley sign former England Schools U15s captain|author=Nathan Atkinson|work=Bradford Telegraph and Argus|date=26 February 2020 |accessdate=26 February 2020}}</ref> Since 2020 Holland has played for Keighley Cricket Club in the Bradford Premier League.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/18257118.keighley-sign-former-england-schools-u15s-captain/|title=Keighley sign former England Schools U15s captain|author=Nathan Atkinson|work=Bradford Telegraph and Argus|date=26 February 2020 |accessdate=26 February 2020}}</ref>
