Sheehan was born in [[Bantry]] Co. He entered [[Maynooth College]] in 1860 and was ordained in 1868 for the diocese of Cork.<ref>[https://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/bishop/bsheer.html Bishop Sheehan] Catholic Hierarchy.</ref>
