==Recreation and Access== thumb|right|400px|A time lapse video of Upper Reed Lake, taken from Bomber PassDue to their year-round cold temperatures and the lack of road access, recreation on the lakes themselves is virtually nonexistent. However, the lakes are a popular destination for photographers, hikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.
The Reed lakes can be accessed from the Reed Lakes trailhead on Fern Mine Road. The hike to the lakes is considered moderate, and includes approximately 1900 ft. of elevation gain to Upper Reed Lake and a scramble over a boulder field.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.solsticelight.com/aks/gallery/journal/alaska/070399/reedlakes.htm |title=Solstice Light "Beautiful Scenery is Encountered on the Rigorous Hike to Reed Lakes" |accessdate=December 6, 2012 }}{{Dead link|date=August 2025 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }}</ref><ref>{{cite web |url=http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/aspunits/trails/reedlk.htm |archive-url=https://archive.today/20130213161607/http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/aspunits/trails/reedlk.htm |url-status=dead |archive-date=February 13, 2013 |title=Alaska Department of Natural Resources, "Reed Lakes Trailhead" |accessdate=December 6, 2012}}</ref> The Reed Lakes also lie on the informal wilderness route known as the Bomber Traverse.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://atrailcalledlife.blogspot.com/2011/05/air-raid-bomber-traverse-in-11-hour.html |title=From a Trail called 'Life': "Air raid: Bomber Traverse in an 11-hour epic" |accessdate=December 6, 2012}}</ref>
