'''Puppy Games''' is an independent games studio based in the UK. They describe their game style as "neo-retro arcade games".<ref name=":0" />
Puppy Games is a corporation that was founded in 2002 by Caspian Prince and Chaz Willets as a part-time project, before becoming full-time in 2010 with the release of ''Revenge of the Titans''. Justin "Allicorn" Burt joined the company in 2011.<ref name=":0" />
Several of the games created by the studio are remakes of classic arcade games with modern graphics, new settings, and additional gameplay elements such as upgrades. However, their highest rated game, ''Revenge of the Titans'', is an original concept.
Despite participating in the Humble Bundle,<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/12/19/puppygames-fill-the-humble-weekly-bundle/|title=Puppygames Fill The Humble Weekly Bundle|last=Walker|first=John|date=2013-12-19|website=Rock, Paper, Shotgun|language=en-US|access-date=2017-07-09}}</ref> founder Caspian Prince has been vocal on the devaluation of indie games, saying that game bundles make individual consumers "worthless" as game studios must focus more on selling as many games as possible than providing support after the fact.<ref>{{Cite news|url=http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-08-18-customers-are-worthless-puppy-games|title=Customers are worthless - Puppy Games|work=GamesIndustry.biz|access-date=2017-07-09|language=en}}</ref> He also predicted a "mass extinction event" of indie game developers due to an over-saturated market.<ref>{{Cite news|url=http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-08-22-indie-devs-facing-mass-extinction-event-prince|title=Indie devs facing "mass extinction event" - Prince|work=GamesIndustry.biz|access-date=2017-07-09|language=en}}</ref>
The studio had initially planned to develop ''Battledroid'' as the next game after ''Ultratron'', but due to monetary troubles, they started developing ''Basingstoke'', which was initially planned to be a small game,<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/08/18/puppygames-battledroid-basingstoke/|title=Puppygames' Fate Worse Than Closing: Basingstoke|last=O'Connor|first=Alice|date=2014-08-18|website=Rock, Paper, Shotgun|language=en-US|access-date=2017-07-09}}</ref> but also increased in scope.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.puppygames.net/blog/?p=2290|title=Where Free To Play Fits In The Race To The Bottom {{!}} Puppyblog|website=www.puppygames.net|access-date=2017-07-09}}</ref> Puppy Games has since started a Patreon to help fund their games, but it was not a large success, forcing Caspian Prince to fund the studio from programming contract work for a marine seismic expedition, and use the money to hire a programmer.<ref name=":1">{{Cite web|url=http://www.puppygames.net/blog/?p=2256|title=Puppygames Spends Crowdfunding Money On Development Shocker {{!}} Puppyblog|website=www.puppygames.net|access-date=2017-07-09}}</ref> ''Basingstoke'' and ''Battledroid'' are still in development.<ref name=":1" />
