This species is [[Endemism|endemic]] to [[Lake Tanganyika]] where found in [[Burundi]], the [[Democratic Republic of the Congo]], [[List of non-marine molluscs of Tanzania|Tanzania]], and [[Zambia]].<ref name="iucn status 16 November 2021" /> It is common and widespread in the lake.<ref name="iucn status 16 November 2021" />

''Pseudospatha'' is one of three [[monotypic]] genera of freshwater mussel that are endemic to Lake Tanganyika, the others being ''[[Brazzaea]]'' and ''[[Grandidieria]]''.<ref name=Darwall2011/>
