Located in the Valparaíso Region, it is {{convert|61|km|abbr=on}} from Los Andes, the nearest city, and {{convert|160|km|-1|abbr=on}} by vehicle from Santiago. Ski Portillo has 35 named runs and 14 lifts. The lowest lift loads at {{convert|2548|m|abbr=on}}, and the highest reaches {{convert|3310|m|-1|abbr=on}}, yielding a vertical drop of {{convert|762|m|abbr=on}}.
The summit of the mountain ''(Ojos de Agua)'' climbs to {{convert|4222|m|abbr=on}}. ==History== Plans to build the ski area were drawn up in the 1930s. Construction began in 1942 and the ski area was opened in 1949.
