'''''Poblana squamata''''', the '''Quechulac silverside''', is a species of [[neotropical silverside]] [[Endemism|endemic]] to [[Mexico]].<ref name = Fishbase>{{Fishbase|Poblana|squamata|month=April|year=2019}}</ref> It is only found in the [[volcanic crater lake]] of [[Oriental_Basin#Maar_lakes|Quechulac]] which is {{convert|6.5|km|miles}} southeast of [[Alchichica]], [[Puebla State]], Mexico at an elevation of {{convert|2,365|m|ft}}. The fish only inhabit some areas of the lake, avoiding the steep slopes and preferring areas where [[Cyperaceae|sedges]] grow. Due to this extremely small habitat area, the species is listed as Critically Endangered on the [[IUCN Red List]]. While the lake is not affected by human alteration, there is danger of overfishing.<ref name="iucn status 17 November 2021" />

It prefers [[pelagic zone|pelagic]] (open water) areas. Its diet is [[omnivorous]] and consists of [[crustaceans]].
