== History == The constituency was created in 1984 from the Bakerganj-14 constituency when the former [[Backergunge District|Bakerganj District]] was split into four districts: [[Bhola District|Bhola]], [[Barisal District|Bakerganj]], [[Jhalokati District|Jhalokati]], and [[Pirojpur District|Pirojpur]].

Ahead of the [[2008 Bangladeshi general election|2008 general election]], the [[Bangladesh Election Commission|Election Commission]] redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the [[2001 Bangladesh census]].<ref name="Rahman2010" /> The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency.<ref name="ds11Jul2008" />
