Taricone was born in Frosinone. He was a contestant on the first season of ''Grande Fratello'', the Italian version of ''Big Brother'', in 2000.<ref name=timesofmalta>{{Cite news|first=Stephanie|last=Fsadni|title=Pietro Taricone dies in parachute incident|url=https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/pietro-taricone-dies-in-parachute-incident.315379 |work=Times of Malta|date=29 June 2010 |access-date=6 July 2010}}</ref> On the show, Taricone had an affair with fellow contestant Cristina Plevani after just three days in the house.<ref name=timesofmalta/> Taricone came in third place on the show, while Plevani won the season.<ref name=timesofmalta/> However, the show launched Taricone's career and he later appeared in Italian television and film roles.<ref name=maltatoday/>
Taricone had one daughter, Sofia, with Kasia Smutniak, a Polish model and actress.<ref name=timesofmalta/>
Taricone and Smutniak took part in a skydive over Terni, Umbria, in June 2010.<ref name=maltatoday/> During the jump, Taricone waited to open his parachute until he was just {{convert|100|m|ft}} from the ground<ref name=maltatoday/> and thus could not stop his fall in time before he hit the ground.<ref name=maltatoday/> He suffered severe back, leg, and head injuries in the accident.<ref name=timesofmalta/>
