Peter was born in Singapore.<ref name="ABS JUL 1992">Peter Rajah Sentuhan Ajaibnya Diharap - Arena Bola Sepak Magazine (Malaysia), July 1992.</ref> His father is from [[Kuantan]], [[Pahang]] and his mother is from [[Sabah]].<ref name="ABS JUL 1992" /> He played for Sabah between 1972 until 1987.<ref name="ABS JUL 1992" /> He came out of retirement in 1992 when Sabah coach at that time, Oldřich Sedláček asked him to return.<ref name="ABS JUL 1992" />
