==Club career== Henriksen started playing handball at the age of 8. ==National team== Henriksen was part of the Danish team that won silver at the 1993 World Junior Championship. He debuted for the senior national team in 1997.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://danskhaandbold.dk/statistik/spillere/181304|publisher=Dansk Håndbold|title=Peter Henriksen - profile|access-date=21 June 2025}}</ref> He was however often second choice to various other anish goalkeepers. He missed the 2005 World Championship due to injury, and was not selected for the 2006 European Championship.
He returned to the Danish national team for the 2007 World Championship, where Denmark won bronze medals. During the tournament he was the second choice behind Kasper Hvidt. In 2008 he won the European Men's Handball Championship.<ref name=ehf /> The same year he participated in the 2008 Olympics, where Denmark finished 7th.
