'''''Penaea''''' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Penaeaceae, found in southern South Africa. They have an unusual type of embryo sac development; after two rounds of mitosis, four nuclei are formed at each pole, leading to a mature embryo sac containing four polar groups each with three cells. When found in other taxa, these embryo sacs are termed ''Penaea''-type.<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Kordyum |first1=Elizabeth L. |author-link=Elizabeth Kordyum |last2=Mosyakin |first2=Sergei L. |year=2020 |title=Endosperm of Angiosperms and Genomic Imprinting |journal=Life |volume=10 |issue=7 |page=104 |bibcode=2020Life...10..104K |doi=10.3390/life10070104 |pmc=7400472 |pmid=32635326 |doi-access=free}}</ref>
