'''''Parachlorella''''' is a genus of green algae in the order Chlorellales.<ref>See the NCBI [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Taxonomy/Browser/wwwtax.cgi?mode=Info&id=247501 webpage on Parachlorella]. Data extracted from the {{cite web | url=https://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/pub/taxonomy/ | title=NCBI taxonomy resources | publisher=National Center for Biotechnology Information | access-date=2007-03-19}}</ref> The genus ''Parachlorella'' is more or less indistinguishable from the similar genus ''Chlorella'' using morphological features alone; the two genera differ genetically, and can be identified using their 18S ribosomal RNA.<ref name=Krienitz2004/>

''Parachlorella'' consists of solitary, egg-shaped to spherical cells, sometimes covered in a gelatinous layer. The chloroplast is parietal and contains a broadly elliptical pyrenoid sheathed in grains of starch. Reproduction occurs through autospores. It is found in freshwater habitats, or soil.<ref name=Krienitz2004>{{cite journal|doi=10.2216/i0031-8884-43-5-529.1 |title=Phylogenetic relationship of ''Chlorella'' and ''Parachlorella'' gen. nov.
