James Canning, communications coordinator for the Mayor's office of Detroit, views the artists' actions as unlawful and vandalism, stating that any demolitions which took place following the project's painting expeditions have been coincidental.<ref name=npr>Interview on NPR's ''Day to Day'' program, December 7, 2006</ref>

The artists chose the color "Tiggerific Orange<ref>[http://disney.go.com/disneyhome/disneypaints.html Disney paint catalog]</ref>" from the Disney paint catalog by Behr<ref name=detroiter /> for its similarity to traffic cones and the safety orange worn by hunters.<ref name=npr />
