'''One cut homeobox 1''' is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ONECUT1 gene. <ref name="entrez"> {{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: One cut homeobox 1 | url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/3175 | access-date = 2016-04-13 }}</ref>

==Function==

This gene encodes a member of the Cut homeobox family of transcription factors. Expression of the encoded protein is enriched in the liver, where it stimulates transcription of liver-expressed genes, and antagonizes glucocorticoid-stimulated gene transcription. This gene may influence a variety of cellular processes including glucose metabolism, cell cycle regulation, and it may also be associated with cancer. It is important for the differentiation of pancreas endocrine cells,<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Heller |first=Sandra |last2=Li |first2=Zhijian |last3=Lin |first3=Qiong |last4=Geusz |first4=Ryan |last5=Breunig |first5=Markus |last6=Hohwieler |first6=Meike |last7=Zhang |first7=Xi |last8=Nair |first8=Gopika G. |last9=Seufferlein |first9=Thomas |last10=Hebrok |first10=Matthias |last11=Sander |first11=Maike |last12=Julier |first12=Cécile |last13=Kleger |first13=Alexander |last14=Costa |first14=Ivan G. |date=2021-11-17 |title=Transcriptional changes and the role of ONECUT1 in hPSC pancreatic differentiation |url=https://www.nature.com/articles/s42003-021-02818-3 |journal=Communications Biology |language=en |volume=4 |issue=1 |pages=1298 |doi=10.1038/s42003-021-02818-3 |issn=2399-3642|pmc=8599846 }}</ref> and mutations in ONECUT1 are involved in juvenile diabetes.<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Philippi |first=Anne |last2=Heller |first2=Sandra |last3=Costa |first3=Ivan G. |last4=Senée |first4=Valérie |last5=Breunig |first5=Markus |last6=Li |first6=Zhijian |last7=Kwon |first7=Gino |last8=Russell |first8=Ronan |last9=Illing |first9=Anett |last10=Lin |first10=Qiong |last11=Hohwieler |first11=Meike |last12=Degavre |first12=Anne |last13=Zalloua |first13=Pierre |last14=Liebau |first14=Stefan |last15=Schuster |first15=Michael |date=November 2021 |title=Mutations and variants of ONECUT1 in diabetes |url=https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01502-7 |journal=Nature Medicine |language=en |volume=27 |issue=11 |pages=1928–1940 |doi=10.1038/s41591-021-01502-7 |issn=1546-170X|pmc=9356324 }}</ref> Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
