==Career== Barkley began his career in his native Northern Ireland, playing in the Irish League for Larne and Crusaders, before emigrating to New Zealand in February 1983.<ref>{{Cite news|title=Make or break time for "Big Two"|newspaper=Belfast Telegraph|date=28 January 1983|page=24}}</ref>
