The type species, ''N. costipennis'', was originally described as "''Colaspis costipennis''" by Lefèvre in 1877, which makes the name a junior homonym of ''Colaspis costipennis'' Crotch, 1873; however, Jan Bechyné considered it worthless to correct the homonymy after having established a new genus for the Lefèvre species.<ref name="Bechyné1951">{{cite journal|first=J.|last=Bechyné|year=1951|title=Liste provisoire des Eumolpides de Bolivie et observations diverses sur les espèces de l'Amérique du Sud (Col.
