'''Nipekamew River'''<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www4.rncan.gc.ca/search-place-names/unique/HAMFX|title=Place names - Nipekamew River|first=Natural Resources Canada|last=Government of Canada|website=www4.rncan.gc.ca}}</ref> is a river in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The river's source is Nipekamew Lake at the north-western edge of the Cub Hills<ref>{{cite web |title=Cub Hills|url=https://toponymes.rncan.gc.ca/search-place-names/unique/HAEPF|website=Canadian Geographical Names Database |publisher=Government of Canada |access-date=30 May 2025}}</ref> and its mouth is in Nipekamew Bay at the southern shore of Lac la Ronge. From the northern tip of Nipekamew Lake, the river travels from south to north through muskeg and boreal forest<ref>{{cite web |title=Boreal Plains Ecozone |url=http://ecozones.ca/english/zone/BorealPlains/index.html |website=ecozones |access-date=31 December 2021}}</ref> en route to Lac la Ronge. Lake la Ronge empties north into the Churchill River through Rapid River.

Nipekamew River is in the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District and the only highway to cross the river is Highway 165. Highway 912 parallels the river from Nipekamew Lake to Wapawekka Lake and Lac la Ronge. Adjacent to the mouth of the river is Fox Point Indian Reserve.

The upper reaches of the river's watershed include East Trout Lake, tributaries from the hills of Clarence-Steepbank Lakes Provincial Park,<ref>{{cite web | url=https://www.tourismsaskatchewan.com/provincialpark/1418/clarence-steepbank-lakes-provincial-park#sort=relevancy | title=Clarence-Steepbank Lakes Provincial Park | Tourism Saskatchewan }}</ref> Nipekamew Creek, and tributaries from the Cub Hills.<ref>{{cite web |title=Trout Streams of the Cub Hills |url=http://www.environment.gov.sk.ca/Default.aspx?DN=d46a43b0-7682-4764-b064-bebad18ba5d6 |website=environment.gov.sk |publisher=Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment |access-date=12 February 2022 |archive-date=3 February 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220203172445/http://www.environment.gov.sk.ca/Default.aspx?DN=d46a43b0-7682-4764-b064-bebad18ba5d6 |url-status=dead }}</ref>

== Nipekamew Sand Cliffs== Along the course of river are the provincially protected Nipekamew Sand Cliffs.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www4.rncan.gc.ca/search-place-names/unique/HAWZF|title=Place names - Nipekamew Sand Cliffs Protected Area|first=Natural Resources Canada|last=Government of Canada|website=www4.rncan.gc.ca}}</ref> The sand cliffs are made up of layers of compacted sand, pebble, and clay that were deposited there 120 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period.<ref>{{cite web |title=Unique Places to visit in Saskatchewan |url=https://www.todocanada.ca/unusual-places-visit-saskatchewan/ |publisher=To Do Canada |access-date=26 March 2024 |date=21 July 2023}}</ref> Erosion by the Nipekamew River exposed the cliffs.
