== Geography == Nindooinbah occupies a part of the upper Albert River valley where Cainbable Creek joins the river. The Albert River also marks portions of both the eastern and western borders. In the east of the locality the slopes of Mount Witheren reach more than {{convert|550|m}} above sea level. Farming dominates the lower central areas along two main roads aligned in a north–south direction.
The locality is bounded to the east by the Canungra Range.<ref name="globe" /> Mount Witheren is part of the range on the north-eastern boundary of the locality ({{coord|-28.0517|153.1042|type:mountain_region:AU-QLD|name=Mount Witheren (Bingingerra)}}), rising to {{convert|568|m}} above sea level<ref name="MountainPeaksCapes">{{Cite web |date=12 November 2020 |title=Mountain peaks and capes - Queensland |url=https://www.data.qld.gov.au/dataset/geographic-features-queensland-series/resource/06ff12a9-862e-4aac-bf9d-693f0a63b4c9 |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201125215033/https://www.data.qld.gov.au/dataset/geographic-features-queensland-series/resource/06ff12a9-862e-4aac-bf9d-693f0a63b4c9 |archive-date=25 November 2020 |access-date=25 November 2020 |website=Queensland Open Data |publisher=Queensland Government}}</ref><ref>{{cite QPN|37775|Mount Witheren|mountain in Scenic Rim Region|access-date=25 November 2020}}</ref> It is also known by its Yugumbir name ''Bingingerra''. == History == The name ''Nindooinbah'' (also spelled ''Nindooimbah'') is derived from the name of Nindooinbah pastoral run of 1842/3, based on Aboriginal words: ''nguin'' meaning ''charcoal / cinders'', ''doan'' meaning ''black''' and ''ba'' meaning ''place'', indicating ''the place of the remains of a fire''.<ref name="qpnl" />
The Nindooimbah pastoral run was originally selected in the early 1840s by Alfred Compigne, and was subsequently purchased by William Duckett White. The White family variously owned and leased the whole of the land from the present town of Beaudesert as well as a large proportion of the land running from Beaudesert to the shores of the Pacific Ocean, in the neighbourhood of Nerang, Southport, and Coomera. This large land holding was cut up into smaller properties. In 1877, {{Convert|12000|acres||abbr=}} was resumed from the Nooininbah and Kerrylarabah pastoral runs and offered for selection on 17 April 1877.<ref>{{cite news|date=2 March 1877|title=Proclamations under the New Land Acts.|page=3|newspaper=The Brisbane Courier|location=Queensland, Australia|url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article1361846|access-date=19 February 2020|via=Trove}}</ref> Eventually Nindooimbah was reduced to an area of about {{Convert|18,000|acres|ha km2|abbr=}}, of which a further {{Convert|9500|acres|ha km2|abbr=}} was sold to William Collins.<ref name=":0">{{cite news|date=17 March 1906|title=THE NINDOOIMBAH ESTATE.|page=6|newspaper=The Brisbane Courier|location=Queensland, Australia|url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article19440164|access-date=20 May 2020|via=Trove}}</ref>
