'''Nares Land''' or '''Naresland''' is an island in far northern Greenland. The island is named after Polar explorer Sir George Nares.

==Geography== The island lies between the Victoria Fjord and the Nordenskjöld Fjord separated from the Freuchen Land Peninsula of the mainland by a narrow sound. Stephenson Island and John Murray Island lie off its northern end. Nares Land is fairly large, with an area of {{convert|1,466|km2|sqmi|abbr=off}} and a shoreline of {{convert|192.4|km|1|abbr=off}}.<ref>[http://islands.unep.ch/ITP.htm UNEP]</ref> It is {{convert|75|km|abbr=off}} long and up to {{convert|30|km|abbr=off}} wide in its widest place. It has an average elevation of {{convert|161|m|ft|abbr=off}} and its highest point is {{convert|1067|m|ft|abbr=off}}.<ref>[http://mapcarta.com/19189142 Nares Land]</ref>

The area where the island lies has a severe Polar climate and was formerly part of Avannaa, originally ''Nordgrønland'' ("North Greenland"), a former county of Greenland until 31 December 2008.<ref>{{Cite journal |author=Compiled by Per Ivar Haug |editor=Ingar Lomheim |title=Islands |journal=Gazetteer of Greenland |issue=15 |date=August 2005 |publisher=UBiT, Universitetsbiblioteket i Trondheim "University Library in Trondheim" |url=http://www.ntnu.no/ub/formidl/utgivelser/til_opplysning/to_nr15.php#umeny7 |issn=1502-0800 |isbn=82-7113-114-1 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110615162130/http://www.ntnu.no/ub/formidl/utgivelser/til_opplysning/to_nr15.php#umeny7 |archivedate=2011-06-15 }}</ref> The sea around the island is frozen practically the whole year round. {| |- valign="top" |thumb|300px|Map of Northeastern Greenland. |}
