'''NGC 5260''' is a [[barred spiral galaxy]] in the [[constellation]] of [[Hydra_(constellation)|Hydra]]. Its velocity with respect to the [[cosmic microwave background]] is 6789 ± 21 km/s, which corresponds to a [[Hubble%27s_law|Hubble distance]] of 100.13 ± 7.02 [[Megaparsec|Mpc]] (~327 million [[light-years]]).<ref name="ned" /> It was discovered by [[United_States|American]] astronomer [[Lewis Swift]] on 6 April [[1885]].<ref name="seg">{{cite web | url = https://cseligman.com/text/atlas/ngc52a.htm#5260| title = Celestial Atlas Entry for NGC 5260| last = Seligman | first = Courtney | website = cseligman.com | access-date = 9 August 2024 }}</ref>

According to the [[SIMBAD]] database, NGC 5260 is a [[Seyfert galaxy|Seyfert]] II galaxy, i.e. it has a quasar-like nuclei with very high surface brightnesses whose spectra reveal strong, high-ionisation emission lines, but unlike quasars, the host galaxy is clearly detectable.<ref name="SIMBAD">{{cite simbad | title=NGC 5260 | access-date=16 December 2024}}</ref>
