== Name == The word "mynachdy" comes from the Welsh words "mynach" (monk) and "tŷ" (house). This probably refers to Llys Talybont, a manor building in the modern area of Mynachdy that was owned by the monks of Llantarnam Abbey.<ref>{{Cite web|title=The history of the suburb of Gabalfa – Cardiffians.co.uk|url=https://www.cardiffians.co.uk/suburbs/gabalfa.shtml|access-date=2020-07-18|website=www.cardiffians.co.uk}}</ref>

== Mynachdy Institute == The Mynachdy Institute is a community centre in Mynachdy. There have been many threats of closure, with plans to replace it with student flats.<ref>{{Cite news|last=Waldram|first=Hannah|date=2010-05-14|title=Gabalfa student flats rejected by locals|language=en-GB|work=The Guardian|url=https://www.theguardian.com/cardiff/2010/may/14/gabalfa-flats-petition-mynachdy-road|access-date=2020-07-18|issn=0261-3077}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|title=Outrage after Mynachdy flats plan approved|url=http://cardifflibdems.org.uk/en/article/2012/0580500/outrage-after-mynachdy-flats-plan-approved|access-date=2020-07-18|website=Cardiff Liberal Democrats|language=cy}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|last=Lewis|first=Anna|date=2018-02-01|title=Community centre on site of 361 planned student flats has closed|url=https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/community-centre-site-controversial-planning-14226286|access-date=2020-07-18|website=walesonline}}</ref> However, after its initial closure, a successful community movement regained control of the Institute from Cardiff Council.<ref>{{Cite web|date=2018-03-09|title=Residents bid to take back control of community venue|url=https://jomec.co.uk/thecardiffian/2018/03/09/residents-bid-take-back-control-community-venue/|access-date=2020-07-18|website=The Cardiffian|language=en-GB}}</ref>

== Transport == The A470 North Road runs along Mynachdy's northeast side.

Mynachdy is bordered on its southwest side by a local railway line. There are plans under consideration to build the Gabalfa railway station on this line to serve Mynachdy and neighbouring Gabalfa.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Gabalfa Metro Station|url=https://www.cardiffld.org.uk/mynachdystation|access-date=2020-07-18|website=Cardiff Liberal Democrats}}</ref>
