'''Mununga''' is a settlement in Kenya's Central Province. An alternate name for this area is "Mununca".

Mununga is in central Kenya, Muranga county.<ref>{{Cite web |title="Mununga, Murang'A, Kenya" Mindat.org |url=https://www.mindat.org/feature-185635.html |access-date=2025-09-08 |website=www.mindat.org |language=en}}</ref> It sits in the Kigumo constituency, inside the Kinyona location. Mununga is a Kikuyu name meaning "smelling place." Mununga was known as Gitegenye, but later in the 1950's, received its name 'mununga' from the foul smell of unburied, decomposing bodies of anti-British resistance troops. Said troops allegedly met their terrible death at the hands of Chief Njiiri wa Karanja; a royal and right man to the British Empire, who fought the Mau Mau resistance with all forces at his disposal.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Fighting the Mau Mau |url=https://www.cambridge.org/universitypress/subjects/history/military-history/fighting-mau-mau-british-army-and-counter-insurgency-kenya-emergency |access-date=2025-09-08 |website=Cambridge University Press & Assessment |language=en}}</ref> Mununga was one of rebellions' "bedrooms," where it is believed most Mau Mau generals held their warfare meetings here before retreating back into the Aberdare forest.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2025-09-07 |title=Kikuyu {{!}} History, Culture & Language {{!}} Britannica |url=https://www.britannica.com/topic/Kikuyu |access-date=2025-09-08 |website=www.britannica.com |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{Cite news |date=1953-05-08 |title=MAU MAU DEVELOPS MILITARY TACTICS; Latest Kenya Attacks Reveal Capacity for Organization in Terrorist Command (Published 1953) |url=https://www.nytimes.com/1953/05/08/archives/mau-mau-develops-military-tactics-latest-kenya-attacks-reveal.html |access-date=2025-09-08 |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |last=AOAV |date=2022-07-26 |title=Civilian Casualties from British Military: The Mau Mau Insurgency |url=https://aoav.org.uk/2022/civilian-casualties-from-british-military-the-mau-mau-insurgency/ |access-date=2025-09-08 |website=AOAV |language=en-US}}</ref>
