==History== The mountain was named in 1898 by J. Norman Collie after Herman Woolley. Woolley, a former football player, climbed extensively with Collie during his 1898 and 1902 expeditions into the Canadian Rockies.<ref name=pf/>

The first ascent was made in 1925 by a Japanese team consisting of S. Hashimoto, H. Hatano, {{ill|T. Hayakawa|ja|早川種三}}, Y. Maki, {{ill|Y.Mita|ja|三田幸夫}}, N. Okabe. They were guided by Heinrich Fuhrer, H. Kohler and J. ==Geology== Mount Woolley is composed of sedimentary rock laid down from the Precambrian to Jurassic periods.<ref name=Belyea1960>{{Belyea-Banff-NP}}</ref> Formed in shallow seas, this sedimentary rock was pushed east and over the top of younger rock during the Laramide orogeny.<ref name=gadd>{{cite book|title=Geology of the Rocky Mountains and Columbias |author=Gadd, Ben |year=2008}}</ref>

==Climate== Based on the Köppen climate classification, Mount Woolley is located in a subarctic climate zone with cold, snowy winters, and mild summers.<ref name=KGcc2007>{{Cite Köppen-Geiger cc 2007}}</ref> Temperatures can drop below -20&nbsp;°C with wind chill factors below -30&nbsp;°C.
