==Location== The peak is on the border between the communes of [[Lama]] and [[Sorio]]. It is to the east of the D8 road from [[Pietralba]] via Lama to [[Urtaca]]. It is the highest point of a ridge that includes the {{convert|1509|m}} Cima di Grimaseta and {{convert|1512|m}} Petra San Ghiaccu to the south and the {{convert|1371|m}} Monte a l'Alturaia, {{convert|1299|m}} Cima a Muzzelli and {{convert|1063|m}} Monte Ambrica to the north.{{sfn|Node: Monte Astu (26863790)}} Another ridge runs eastward through the 1333 Monti di Peru, 1042 A Genucula and 717 Croce d'Aculaghja to [[San-Gavino-di-Tenda]].{{sfn|Rando 17 : Monte Astu}} The Fiume di Gargalagne, a tributary of the [[Ostriconi]], drains the west of the ridge. ==Physical== Monte Asto has an elevation of {{convert|1535|m}} and clean prominence of {{convert|1063|m}}. It is isolated by {{convert|17.96|km}} from its nearest higher neighbour, [[Cima a i Mori]] to the south of southwest.{{sfn|Monte Asto, France, Peakbagger}}
Monte Astu is the highest point in the Tenda massif between [[Saint-Florent, Haute-Corse|Saint-Florent]] and [[L'Île-Rousse]] in Haute-Corse. This is a granitic mole partially detached from its mica schist encasement which still remains on its periphery and on its roof.{{sfn|Lahondere|Rossi|Lahondere|1999|p=28}}
==Hiking== The route to the summit from Lama is {{convert|12.8|km}} there and back, with a vertical of {{convert|1043|m}}.
