'''MONEY''' were an English alternative rock band, formed in Manchester in 2011 by Jamie Lee, Charlie Cocksedge, Billy Byron and Scott Beaman.<ref>{{cite web|url = https://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/radar-band-of-the-week-money|title = Radar Band Of The Week - Money|date = 20 June 2013|accessdate = |website = NME|publisher = |last = |first = }}</ref>

== History == Having formed in [[Manchester]] in 2011, MONEY is named after [[money]], the medium of exchange. The band started out playing shows in venues such as [[City of Salford|Salford]]'s Sacred Trinity Church and ‘The Bunker', a former factory near [[Strangeways]] prison and home to the independent label SWAYS, who released the band’s debut 7" single, "Who’s Going to Love You Now" / "Goodnight London"<ref>{{cite web|url = https://www.theguardian.com/music/2012/jan/09/new-band-money|title = Guardian Music New Band Of The Week: Money (No 1,181)|date = 2012-01-09|accessdate = |website = The Guardian|publisher = |last = |first = }}</ref> in January 2012. They followed that with ‘''So Long (God is Dead'')’, released on the French label Almost Musique. Having been tracked down by [[Simon Raymonde]], the band subsequently signed to [[Bella Union]], headlining the label's Christmas party<ref>{{cite web|url = http://dotsanddashes.co.uk/live/bella-union-christmas-service-union-chapel/|title = Bella Union Christmas Service, Union Chapel|website = Dots And Dashes|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20140912204052/http://dotsanddashes.co.uk/live/bella-union-christmas-service-union-chapel/|archive-date = 12 September 2014|url-status = dead}}</ref> at the Union Chapel in London in December 2012 before taking to the studio to record their debut album.

The band’s first single with Bella Union, "Bluebell Fields"<ref>{{cite web|url = http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/music-video-premieres/money-bluebell-fields|archive-url = https://archive.today/20140912150341/http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/music-video-premieres/money-bluebell-fields|url-status = dead|archive-date = 12 September 2014|title = MONEY - "BLUEBELL FIELDS" (OFFICIAL VIDEO)|date = |accessdate = |website = Noisey|publisher = |last = |first = }}</ref>''<nowiki>'</nowiki>'', was released in June 2013, and shortly afterwards they announced<ref>{{cite web|url = http://bellaunion.com/2013/06/money-announced-debut-album-the-shadow-of-heaven/|title = MONEY announced debut album 'The Shadow Of Heaven'|date = |accessdate = |website = Bella Union|publisher = |last = |first = }}</ref> their self-produced debut album, ''[[The Shadow of Heaven]]'',<ref>{{cite web|url = https://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/aug/22/money-shadow-of-heaven-review|title = Money: The Shadow of Heaven - review|date = 2013-08-22|accessdate = |website = The Guardian|publisher = |last = |first = }}</ref> which was released on 26 August 2013.
