He was also substitute for the Committee on Constitutional Affairs.

== Controversy == Camre made statements on several occasions which occasioned controversy. Among other things, he stated that {{blockquote|"When I look at the voting rules, I see that countries like Romania and Bulgaria have many more votes than Denmark and Sweden and Finland, and I think - honestly speaking - that we are more clever than they are,"<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/5324440/Bulgarians-and-Romanians-not-intelligent-enough-to-make-decisions-for-the-EU.html|title=Bulgarians and Romanians 'not intelligent enough' to make decisions for the EU|publisher=telegraph.co.uk|date=2009-05-14|accessdate=2008-06-08 | location=London | first=Bruno | last=Waterfield}}</ref>|}} This statement was interpreted by several other MEPs, among them Hannes Swoboda, an Austrian Social-Democrat and Renate Weber, a Romanian MEP, to mean that Camre had stated that Danes were more clever than Bulgarians and Romanians.

On 13 November 2007 he was elected to the Danish parliament, but only two days later announced that he declined his seat in parliament because it would mean that he couldn't finish his term in the European Parliament.<ref>{{cite news|url=http://politiken.dk/politik/article429936.ece|title=Camre dropper Folketinget|language=Danish|publisher=Politiken|date=2007-11-15|accessdate=2007-11-15|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20071116001928/http://politiken.dk/politik/article429936.ece|archivedate=2007-11-16}}</ref>

In 2015 he participated in a Pegida Denmark demonstration that gathered 200 demonstrators.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.bt.dk/danmark/mogens-camre-til-pegida-demo-en-demonstration-mod-overgreb-og-myrderier|title= Mogens Camre til Pegida-demo: En demonstration mod overgreb og myrderier |first=Jon Kirketerp|last=Jørgensen|work=B.T.|date=19 January 2015}}</ref>
