The codex contains the text of the Gospel of Matthew, Gospel of Mark, and Gospel of Luke on 237 parchment leaves (size {{×|20.8|15.5}}),<ref name = Aland/> with lacuna (Luke 2:7-21). It contains Prolegomena, the tables of the {{lang|grc|κεφαλαια}} (''contents'') are placed before each Gospel, numbers of the {{lang|grc|κεφαλαια}} (''chapters'') are given at the left margin, the {{lang|grc|τιτλοι}} (''titles''), Ammonian Sections (241 sections, the last section in 16:20), a references to the Eusebian Canons (in blue), and illuminated headings to the Gospels.<ref name = Scrivener/><ref name = Gregory/>
According to Scrivener it is "exquisitely written", with great resemble to Minuscule 71 in text.<ref name = Scrivener/> Edward A. Guy recognised this resemblance as the first.<ref name = Gregory/>

Scrivener dated the manuscript to the 14th century, Gregory dated it to the 12th or 13th century.<ref name = Gregory/> Currently the manuscript is dated by the INTF to the 12th century.<ref name="INTF"/>
The manuscript was bought from Spyridion Lambros from Athens in 1859, along with 22 other manuscripts of the New Testament (codices: 269, 270, 271, 272, 688, 689, 690, 691, 693, etc.).<ref name = Gregory/>
It was added to the list of New Testament manuscript by Scrivener (596) and Gregory (692).<ref name = Scrivener/>
It was examined by S. T. Bloomfield and Dean Burgon. Gregory saw the manuscript in 1883.<ref name = Gregory/>
The manuscript is currently housed at the British Library (Add MS 22740) in London.<ref name = Aland/><ref name = INTF/>
