Berdin began the 2020–21 season with the SKA Saint Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He played 14 games with the team and posted a 6–3–2 record.<ref name="EP"/>
Entering his final season under contract with the Jets, Berdin entered the NHL Substance Abuse program, citing the desire to return to his native Russia.
