Weimer joined the United States Army in 1993, completed Special Forces Assessment and Selection in 1994, and earned his green beret in 1996 as a Special Forces weapons sergeant.<ref name="2022-12-08_M" /><ref name="Weimer_bio">[https://www.socom.mil/soccent/BIO_PDFs/CSM_Michael_Weimer_BIO_CAO_21OCT20.pdf Command Sergeant Major Michael R.
