On 16 November 2017, Mehran Marri was arrested at Zurich Airport by Swiss authorities. Shortly after his arrest, Mehran Marri was placed under lifetime ban on entry to Switzerland. Swiss authorities issued a chargesheet in which they stated that Mehran Marri was the head of United Baloch Army (UBA).<ref name="Timesofindia">{{cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/baloch-human-rights-activist-mehran-marri-detained/articleshow/61682369.cms|title=Baloch human rights activist Mehran Marri detained|date=17 November 2017|work=Times of India|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171117094849/https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/baloch-human-rights-activist-mehran-marri-detained/articleshow/61682369.cms|archive-date=17 November 2017|url-status=live|df=dmy-all}}</ref> The chargesheet further stated that "if Marri was to enter Switzerland and work with Brahumdagh Bugti to coordinate terrorist operations, it could jeopardize the internal security of Switzerland".<ref name="Thenews">{{cite web|url=https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/245377-swiss-banned-mehran-baluch-over-risks-to-security|title=Swiss banned Mehran Baluch over 'risks' to security|date=17 November 2017|work=The News International|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171118052402/https://www.thenews.com.pk/latest/245377-swiss-banned-mehran-baluch-over-risks-to-security|archive-date=18 November 2017|url-status=live|df=dmy-all}}</ref><ref>[https://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2018/01/16/gazain-marri-announces-to-quit-separatist-politics-for-betterment-of-balochistan/ Gazain Marri shuns separatist agenda, vows to join mainstream politics], 16 January 2018, Pakistan Today.</ref><ref>[https://en.dailypakistan.com.pk/23-Nov-2017/switzerland-shoots-down-brahumdagh-bugti-s-asylum-plea Switzerland shoots down Brahumdagh Bugti's asylum plea], 23 November 2017, Daily Pakistan.</ref>
However, after some time, Marri was released and deported by the Swiss authorities from Switzerland. Marri currently resides in United Kingdom. Marri's brother, Balach Marri, was the head of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a Baloch militant organisation, until his death in a NATO airstrike in 2007 in Afghanistan. After Balach Marri's death, Hyrbyair Marri took control of the BLA.
His father spent five years in Hyderabad Jail. He along with his brother Hyrbyair live in England, while their brother Changez is chief of the Marri tribe and a politician in Pakistan.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://dailytimes.com.pk/58794/india-is-backing-a-lost-cause/|title=India is backing a lost cause|work=Daily Times|date=6 September 2016|accessdate=31 October 2020|first=Hassan Masood|last=Kunwar|quote=Two sons of Khair Bakhsh Marri, Harbiyar Marri — who was a member of the provincial assembly until the 1999 military coup — and Mehran Marri, born in Afghanistan while Khair Bakhsh Marri was in exile, are still senior leaders of the separatist movement.}}</ref>
== Split from BLA == In 2012, the United Baloch Army (UBA) broke away from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
