He was born in [[Santiago]], Chile.<ref name="AMG"/> Aguayo grew up in [[Gummersbach]], Germany. In 1997, working with Michael Mayer under the project name Zimt, he released his debut single "U.O.A.A." on the label Ladomat 2000.<ref name="RA">{{Cite web|url=https://www.residentadvisor.net/features/1039|title=Matias Aguayo: The Vagabond|website=Resident Advisor}}</ref> Shortly afterwards he founded the project Closer Musik with Dirk Leyers.<ref name="RA" /><ref name="quietus">{{cite web |last1=Hutchinson |first1=Kate |title=Calling Occupant Of Interplanetary Craft: Matias Aguayo Interviewed |url=https://thequietus.com/articles/26570-matias-aguayo-interview |website=[[The Quietus]] |access-date=9 December 2019 |location=[[Medellín]], [[Colombia]] |date=3 June 2019}}</ref> In 2004, the group disbanded and Aguayo launched his solo career with the album ''Are You Really Lost?''.

In 2006, Aguayo was one of four organizers of the Bumbumbox parties, which took place unannounced in the public space of various major cities in South America.
