Jorge Ben recorded his own version the following year on his debut album ''Samba esquema novo'', which was also released as a single. The song was covered first by several other prominent Brazilian artists in the following years, including by Tamba Trio in 1963 and Luis Carlos Vinhas in 1964. It was voted by the Brazilian edition of ''Rolling Stone'' as the fifth-greatest Brazilian song.<ref>{{cite magazine|first=Zeca|last=Azevedo|title=As 100 Maiores Músicas Brasileiras – "Mas que Nada"|url=http://rollingstone.uol.com.br/listas/100-maiores-musicas-brasileiras/mas-que-nada/|magazine=Rolling Stone Brasil|publisher=Spring|access-date=6 January 2014|language=pt|year=2009|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140107022534/http://rollingstone.uol.com.br/listas/100-maiores-musicas-brasileiras/mas-que-nada/|archive-date=7 January 2014|url-status=dead}}</ref> It was inducted to the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2013.<ref>{{cite web|title=Latin Grammy Hall Of Fame|url=http://www.latingrammy.com/en/latin-grammy-hall-of-fame|website=Latin Grammy Award|publisher=Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences|access-date=19 August 2014|year=2013}}</ref>
==José Prates song== In 1958, Brazilian artist José Prates recorded a track called "Nanã Imborô" that appears on his album ''Tam... Tam... Tam...!'' (1958, Polydor Brasil – LPNG 4.016), which features the underlying melody and vocalizations later used by Jorge Ben in "Mas que nada"; these motifs would be further highlighted by Sergio Mendes’ arrangement in his version of the song in 1966.<ref name="RC mag GP article 1">{{cite web|url=http://www.trunkrecords.com/turntable/tamtamtam/TAMTAMTAMDFG.pdf|title=Diggin' For Gold – Gilles Peterson - Latin: On A Different Trip - José Prates "Tam… Tam… Tam…!" ==Sérgio Mendes versions== Sérgio Mendes covered the song with his band Brasil '66 on their debut album, ''Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66'' (1966). In the United States, the single reached number 47 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and number four on the ''Billboard'' Easy Listening chart. In Canada it reached number 54.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://rpmimages.3345.ca/pdfs/Vol+6%2C+No.+10+-+Week+of+Oct.+31st%2C+1966.pdf| title=RPM Magazine - October 31, 1966 - Page 9}}</ref> Outside of Brazil this 1966 version is better known than Jorge Ben's original and, to many, the definitive version of the song.<ref>{{Cite magazine |last=Exposito |first=Suzy |date=29 September 2018 |title=Flashback: See Eartha Kitt Introduce Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 Performance of 'Mas Que Nada' |url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-latin/sergio-mendes-brasil-66-mas-que-nada-eartha-kitt-1967-731124/ |access-date=13 May 2022 |magazine=Rolling Stone |language=en-US}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://berlinspectator.com/2021/02/02/sergio-mendes-the-genius-who-changed-music/|title=Sérgio Mendes: The Genius Who Changed Music|date=2 February 2021}}</ref> In 1989, Mendes re-recorded the song on his album ''Arara''.

In 2006, Mendes again re-recorded the song, this time with American musical group the Black Eyed Peas and additional vocals by Mendes' wife, Gracinha Leporace, for his album ''Timeless''. This version contains a sample of the Black Eyed Peas' 2004 single "Hey Mama".<ref>{{cite news |last=Simpson |first=Dave |date=22 April 2019 |title=will.i.am and Sérgio Mendes: how we made Mas Que Nada |language=en-GB |work=The Guardian |url=https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/apr/22/william-sergio-mendes-on-how-we-made-mas-que-nada-black-eyed-peas |issn=0261-3077}}</ref> The song topped the charts of Hungary and the Netherlands and peaked at number six on the UK Singles Chart. This version was included in the 2011 animated film ''Rio'' (along with another version recorded in the style of Brasil '66 and also coincidentally featured one of the members, will.i.am, with a voice role in the film as Pedro the red-crested cardinal, one of the main characters of the film) and its soundtrack.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.allmusic.com/album/rio-music-from-the-motion-picture-mw0002116517|title=Various Artists: ''Rio [Music From the Motion Picture]''|publisher=AllMusic|access-date=25 October 2021}}</ref>
