'''MGM Resorts International''' is an American multinational hospitality, sports and entertainment company. It operates resorts in Las Vegas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Maryland, Ohio, New Jersey, Macau, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Sanya, including the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand and Park MGM.

The company began operations in 1987 as '''MGM Grand, Inc.''' and became '''MGM Mirage''' in 2000, after acquiring Mirage Resorts. In the mid-2000s, growth of its non-gambling (lodging, food, retail) revenue began to outpace gambling receipts, and demand for high-rise condominiums was surging, with median property prices in Las Vegas twice the national average.<ref name="nyt1">{{cite news|title=HAVENS; Condo Hotels Move Beyond Resort Towns|work=The New York Times|date=2004-04-02|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/02/travel/havens-condo-hotels-move-beyond-resort-towns.html|first=Dennis|last=Rodkin|access-date=2017-02-10|archive-date=2016-01-05|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160105134825/http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/02/travel/havens-condo-hotels-move-beyond-resort-towns.html|url-status=live}}</ref><ref name="houseloses">{{cite news | title=In Las Vegas, the house loses | work=Guardian | date=2009-07-29 | url=https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cifamerica/2009/jul/29/las-vegas-housing-foreclosures-banks | location=London | first=Sadhbh | last=Walshe | access-date=2016-12-12 | archive-date=2016-03-06 | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160306075719/http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cifamerica/2009/jul/29/las-vegas-housing-foreclosures-banks | url-status=live }}</ref> The company shifted its focus from owning and operating resorts and casinos to developing and building real estate in the leisure and gambling industry—launching the massive CityCenter mixed-use project,<ref name="hbr1">{{cite journal |author1=A.
