It is located on the western side of [[Somerset Island (Nunavut)|Somerset Island]],{{ref|map 2|map}} between [[Aston Bay]]{{ref|map 3|map}} and [[Birmingham Bay]]{{ref|map 4|map}}.

The bay is named in honour of Arctic explorer Sir [[Robert McClure]] (M'Clure).
