''Samlade verk'', her first novel, is 700 pages long and is set in Gothenburg. It was called a "brilliant novel" by book critic Carl Michael Edenborg.

Sandgren was rewarded with the August Prize for non-fiction in 2020 for ''Samlade verk''.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.albertbonniersforlag.se/nyheter/lydia-sandgren-tilldelas-augustpriset-2020/ |title=Lydia Sandgren tilldelas Augustpriset 2020 |trans-title=Lydia Sandgren is awarded the August Prize 2020 |publisher=Albert Bonniers Förlag |language=sv |date=2020-11-23 |access-date=2026-03-11}}</ref>

Her second novel, ''Artens överlevnad'' (2025) is about teacher and author Karl Hillberg, who is contacted by the widow of an Italian composer and asked to write his biography. When he accepts, he soon realises there is someone else doing the same thing at the same time - and who seems to be ahead on the project. The novel takes place in Gothenburg, Rome and New York from the 1970s and onward.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Albert |first1=Bonniers |title=Artens överlevnad |url=https://www.albertbonniersforlag.se/bocker/296122/artens-overlevnad/ |website=Albert Bonniers förlag |publisher=Bonniers |access-date=12 March 2026}}</ref> Critic Sven-Anders Johansson remarked in Aftonbladet that it was a good novel yet overloaded with references and literary props.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Johansson |first1=Sven Anders |title=Till slut blir det för många trådar som hänger lösa |url=https://www.aftonbladet.se/kultur/bokrecensioner/a/QMGwPQ/recension-artens-overlevnad-av-lydia-sandgren |website=aftonbladet |publisher=Schibsted |access-date=12 March 2026}}</ref>

It was nominated for the August Prize in 2025, but did not win.
