At the [[Census in Australia#2006|2006 census]], Lemnos had a population of 369,<ref name=census2006>{{Census 2006 AUS|id=SSC25991 |name=Lemnos (State Suburb)|accessdate=16 May 2010|quick=on}}</ref> which had dropped to 246 at the 2016 census.<ref name=census2016/>

The locality was established in 1927 as a [[Soldier settlement (Australia)|soldier settlement]] area after the [[World War I|First World War]]. Lemnos has a state school, general store with a post office agency, and a large farming community.
