The site is identified as being of national importance in the [[Geological Conservation Review]] for its exposure of the [[Cleveland Dyke]], a [[Palaeogene]] [[intrusion]] associated with the [[Geology_of_Mull#Palaeogene_volcanism|Mull central volcanic complex]].
