'''Lamprimorpha''' is a superorder of marine ray-finned fishes, representing a basal group of the highly diverse clade Acanthomorpha. Represented today only by the order Lampriformes (containing oarfish, crestfish, and opahs, among others), recent studies have recovered other basal fossil species of the group (most of which were previously classified in other clades) dating as far back as the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous. Some of these fossil taxa, such as the paraphyletic genus ''Aipichthys'', are among the oldest known fossil acanthomorphs, and overall they appear to have been a major component of the marine fish fauna at that time. Lamprimorpha is thought to be the sister group to the superorder Paracanthopterygii, which contains cod, dories, and trout-perches; however, Lamprimorpha may instead be sister to Acanthopterygii.<ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Delbarre |first1=Daniel J. |last2=Davesne |first2=Donald |last3=Friedman |first3=Matt |date=2016-07-02 |title=Anatomy and relationships of † Aipichthys pretiosus and †' Aipichthys ' nuchalis (Acanthomorpha: Lampridomorpha), with a review of Late Cretaceous relatives of oarfishes and their allies |url=http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/14772019.2015.1078538 |journal=Journal of Systematic Palaeontology |language=en |volume=14 |issue=7 |pages=545–567 |doi=10.1080/14772019.2015.1078538 |bibcode=2016JSPal..14..545D |s2cid=86575270 |issn=1477-2019|url-access=subscription }}</ref><ref name=":0">{{Cite journal |last1=Davesne |first1=Donald |last2=Friedman |first2=Matt |last3=Barriel |first3=Véronique |last4=Lecointre |first4=Guillaume |last5=Janvier |first5=Philippe |last6=Gallut |first6=Cyril |last7=Otero |first7=Olga |date=2014 |title=Early fossils illuminate character evolution and interrelationships of Lampridiformes (Teleostei, Acanthomorpha): Fossils and Lampridiformes Interrelationships |url=https://hal.science/hal-02880175/document |journal=Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society |language=en |volume=172 |issue=2 |pages=475–498 |doi=10.1111/zoj.12166}}</ref><ref name=":1">{{Cite journal |last1=Davesne |first1=Donald |last2=Gallut |first2=Cyril |last3=Barriel |first3=Véronique |last4=Janvier |first4=Philippe |last5=Lecointre |first5=Guillaume |last6=Otero |first6=Olga |date=2016 |title=The Phylogenetic Intrarelationships of Spiny-Rayed Fishes (Acanthomorpha, Teleostei, Actinopterygii): Fossil Taxa Increase the Congruence of Morphology with Molecular Data |journal=Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution |volume=4 |doi=10.3389/fevo.2016.00129 |doi-access=free |issn=2296-701X|url=https://hal.science/hal-02880177/document }}</ref><ref name=":2">{{Cite journal |last1=Brownstein |first1=Chase Doran |last2=Near |first2=Thomas J |date=2023-10-16 |title=Evolutionary origins of the lampriform pelagic radiation |url=https://doi.org/10.1093/zoolinnean/zlad142 |journal=Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society |doi=10.1093/zoolinnean/zlad142 |issn=0024-4082|url-access=subscription }}</ref><ref name=":3">{{cite journal |last1=Near |first1=Thomas J |last2=Thacker |first2=Christine E |date=18 April 2024 |title=Phylogenetic classification of living and fossil ray-finned fishes (Actinopterygii) |journal=Bulletin of the Peabody Museum of Natural History |volume=65 |doi=10.3374/014.065.0101 |doi-access=free}}</ref>
It was initially described as '''Lampridomorpha''', although this is considered a misspelling by ''Fishes of the World'', which refers to it as Lamprimorpha. Also synonymous with the group is the division '''Lampripterygii'''.<ref>{{Cite book |last1=Nelson |first1=Joseph S. |url=http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/9781119174844 |title=Fishes of the World |last2=Grande |first2=Terry C. |last3=Wilson |first3=Mark V.
