The '''Lake Clarendon Dam''' is a rock and earth-fill embankment dam with an un-gated spillway located off-stream in the locality of Lake Clarendon in the Lockyer Valley Region, South East Queensland, Australia. The main purpose of the dam is for irrigation of the Lockyer Valley.<ref name="qlddams">{{cite book|title=Queensland Dams|last=Harrison|first=Rod |author2=James, Ernie|author3=Sully, Chris|author4=Classon, Bill|author5=Eckermann, Joy|year=2008|publisher=Australian Fishing Network|location={{VICcity|Bayswater}}, Victoria|isbn=978-1-86513-134-4|pages=94 }}</ref><ref name=ancold>{{cite web|url=http://www.ancold.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Dams-Australia-2010-v1-for-website.xls|format=Excel (requires download)|title=Register of Large Dams in Australia|publisher=Australian National Committee on Large Dams|year=2010|access-date=23 June 2014|work=Dams information|archive-date=12 December 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131212120804/http://www.ancold.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Dams-Australia-2010-v1-for-website.xls|url-status=dead}}</ref> The resultant impounded reservoir is called '''Lake Clarendon'''.
==Location and features== Located {{convert|10|km}} northeast of {{QLDcity|Gatton}}, the Lake Clarendon Dam is part of a number of small dams built above the Lockyer Valley to supply water for irrigation purposes.
The {{convert|4200|m|ft|abbr=on}} long rock and earthfill structure has a maximum height of {{convert|13.1|m|ft|abbr=on}} and an overflow spillway which diverts excess water into a series of open channels that eventually flow into the Lockyer Creek. The dam creates a reservoir, Lake Clarendon, with a storage capacity of {{convert|24276|ML|impgal USgal}} and a maximum surface area of {{convert|339|ha}}. The dam is managed by SEQ Water.
Completed in 1992, by mid-2006 the dam was empty due to drought conditions in Australia.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,19750947-3102,00.html |title=Tiny trickle sparks torrent |author=Williams, Brian |access-date=21 April 2008 |date=11 June 2006 |work=The Courier Mail }}</ref> In January 2011, the dam was over 80% full according to the Queensland Water Commission website.
==Recreation== A ''Stocked Impoundment Permit'' is no longer required to fish in the reservoir. Lake Clarendon was removed from the SIP scheme in 2012.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/53888/Rec-fishing-regs.pdf |type=PDF |title=Recreational fishing rules for Queensland: A brief guide |work=Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation |publisher=Queensland Government |date=1 February 2012 |page=7 |access-date=27 June 2014 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131127073506/http://www.daff.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/53888/Rec-fishing-regs.pdf |archive-date=27 November 2013 |url-status=dead }}</ref>
