==History== When [[Cleisthenes]] formally established the deme system in 508/7 BC, Kydathenaion was the third largest deme after [[Acharnae]] and [[Aphidna]].<ref>Hendriks 2012, p. 21</ref> Its population is estimated to have been around 3,300–3,600 people.<ref>Hendriks 2012, p. 70</ref> Kydathenaion was one of the five demes located within the walls of the city of Athens (alongside [[Koile]], [[Kollytos]], [[Melite (deme)|Melite]], and [[Skambonidai]]).<ref>Hendriks 2012, p. 23</ref> It was in the very heart of Athens containing the [[Acropolis]],<ref>Young 1951, p. 140</ref> and possibly the [[Areopagus]].<ref>Young 1951, p. 142</ref>
