'''Kristen Hall''' (born October 24, 1962) is an American folk rock singer-songwriter and a founding member of the country music group Sugarland. She had a solo career and released several albums, formed the country band Sugarland, and more recently has been involved in songwriting collaborations with Courtney Jaye.<ref>{{cite web| url= http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2013/05/06/gac-album-review-courtney-jayes-love-and-forgiveness/| title= GAC Album Review: Courtney Jaye's Love and Forgiveness | archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20131030164826/http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2013/05/06/gac-album-review-courtney-jayes-love-and-forgiveness/| archive-date= October 30, 2013| access-date= April 9, 2016| url-status= dead| website= GACTV.com|first= Daryl| last= Addison}}</ref>

==Association with Sugarland== Hall formed Sugarland in 2002 with Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, and was co-writer of many of the group's early hits. Hall left the group in December 2005<ref name=MMorris /><ref name=settle>{{cite news|title=Sugarland members settle founder's $14M lawsuit|url= http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2010/nov/14/sugarland-members-settle-founders-14m-lawsuit/ |newspaper=San Diego Tribune|date=November 14, 2010|first= Greg | last= Bluestein|agency=Associated Press}}</ref> after the band's debut album ''Twice the Speed of Life''. Nettles and Bush released a statement that "Kristen has decided that she wants to stay home and write songs, and we support her in that decision." It has been speculated, however, that Hall was pressured into departing the group for image reasons, or that she was paid to leave.<ref name=TOC>{{cite news|title=Remember when Sugarland was a Trio?| first= Billy |last= Dukes| newspaper= Taste of Country|url=http://tasteofcountry.com/remember-when-sugarland-trio/}}</ref>

In July 2008, Hall filed a lawsuit for $14 million against Nettles and Bush in the U.S. District Court in Atlanta.<ref name=settle /> She claimed "I started the band, I named the band," and that she bankrolled much of the group's debut album on her credit cards.<ref name=MMorris>{{cite web| title= Sugarland's $14 million Lawsuit| url=http://www.sheknows.com/entertainment/articles/820371/Sugarland-settles-lawsuit-with-Kristen-Hall|first= Meagan |last= Morris|date=November 15, 2010|website=SheKnows.com| access-date= April 9, 2016}}</ref> The remaining band members countered that it was $100,000 in debt at her exit.<ref name=settle /><ref name=MMorris /> The case was settled in November 2010.<ref name=settle /> Specifics of the case have never been released publicly.
