'''Kongeegen''' (the King Oak) is a renowned oak tree in Denmark. It grows in ''Jægerspris Nordskov'' (Jægerspris North Forest) near Jægerspris, on the island of Sjælland.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.cathedralgrove.eu/text/08-Tree-Websites.htm|title=Cathedral Grove - European Tree Websites|first=Karen|last=Wonders|publisher=}}</ref> A scientific investigation in 1965 of the tree's rings indicated that the tree has an estimated age of 1500–2000 years, and may well be the oldest living oak in northern Europe.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.monumentaltrees.com/en/dnk/capitalregion/frederikssund/942_jaegersprisnordskov/|title=Pedunculate oak 'Kongeegen' in Jægerspris Nordskov in Jægerspris|publisher=}}</ref> It probably originally grew in an open meadow,<ref name="Vaupell1863">{{cite book |last=Vaupell |first=Christian |title=De danske skove |url=https://archive.org/details/dedanskeskove00vaupgoog |accessdate=12 October 2010 |year=1863 |publisher=Philipsen |language=Danish |pages=[https://archive.org/details/dedanskeskove00vaupgoog/page/n154 128]–9}}</ref> to account for its short trunk and low branching, with other taller forest trees growing up around it subsequently. Kongeegen is located in the same forest as Snoegen and Storkeegen.
