It has a church called St Cuthbert's Church. The parish of Kirklinton Middle contains the village of Smithfield.
The village lies near the boundary between the civil parishes of Kirklinton Middle and Hethersgill, so that while the church is in the former the adjacent vicarage is in the latter.<ref name=nhle-church>{{NHLE|num=1335549|desc=Church of St Cuthbert}}</ref><ref name=nhle-vicarage>{{NHLE|num=1335578|desc=Vicarage and stables to rear}}</ref>
Two miles north of the village, Brackenhill Tower is a restored pele tower, built in 1584 and little altered externally.<ref>{{cite web |title=Brackenhill Tower |url=http://www.pastscape.org.uk/hob.aspx?hob_id=11561 |publisher=Pastscape |accessdate=2011-06-14}}</ref> left|thumb|250px|Advertisement for Kirklinton Hall, 1937.
