In 2023, Smith had a more expanded role on offense as he played in 18 regular season games, starting in 15, where he had 56 receptions for 701 yards.<ref name=guide/> He also had his first 100-yard receiving game and set single-game career highs on September 23, 2023, when he recorded nine catches for 156 yards in the team's loss to the Argonauts.<ref name=HAMbio/> He also made his post-season debut in the 2023 East Semi-Final loss to the Alouettes where he had four catches for 31 yards.<ref name=guide/>
