He started his career in Valder IL and represented Norway as a youth international.<ref>{{cite news|title=Guttelandslaget i fotball|date=1 July 1991|language=Norwegian|agency=Norwegian News Agency}}</ref><ref name=nff>{{NFF|3458204}}</ref> He joined IL Hødd ahead of the 1993 season.<ref>{{cite news|title=1. divisjon - avdeling B|date=28 April 1993|work=Arbeiderbladet|page=15|language=Norwegian}}</ref> After good performances, he was signed by Lillestrøm SK.
