The Newcomen Baronets were the local landowners for several generations.
In the period 2000 to 2007 many new houses were built around Keenagh, due to the tax incentives available in the area and without direct consideration to demand. As of 2010, many were vacant or incomplete constituting ghost estates.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.longfordleader.ie/news/local/voices_from_the_ghost_estates_1_1958836 |title= Voices from the ghost estates | publisher = Longford Leader | date = 21 April 2010 |access-date=2011-09-09 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120321093747/http://www.longfordleader.ie/news/local/voices_from_the_ghost_estates_1_1958836 |archive-date=2012-03-21 }}</ref> Between the 2002 and 2016 census, the population of Keenagh more than doubled from 225 to 581 inhabitants.<ref name="cso2016"/><ref>{{cite web|url = https://www.citypopulation.de/en/ireland/towns/longford/0508__keenagh/ | publisher = | website = City Population | title = Keenagh (Ireland) Census Town | date = | access-date = 2 February 2020 }}</ref>
