== Early life and education == Jun Kung was born in Hong Kong on August 18, 1977, and raised in Macau. He was heavily influenced by his uncle, who was a music enthusiast and bedroom singer, exposing Kung to live music and band performances from an early age. Growing up in the culturally diverse environment of Macau, his early inspirations were a rich blend of rock, funk, soul, and R&B.
Demonstrating a strong passion and instinct for music, Kung launched his professional career in Hong Kong at just 14 years old. To formalize his diverse musical foundation, he moved to the United States to study at the prestigious Drummer's Collective in New York City from 1995 to 1997. There, he honed his exceptional skills on the drum kit under the mentorship of renowned drumming instructors Kim Plainfield, Duduka da Fonseca, and Ian Froman.
== Career == === Solo debut and music production === After completing his studies in New York, Kung returned to Hong Kong in 1999 to launch his professional music career under Universal Music Group. His debut album, ''Here & Now'', quickly gained industry recognition, winning the "Best New Artist" (Gold) award at the Commercial Radio Hong Kong Ultimate Song Chart Awards.
Kung is a songwriter, producer, and arranger. He has produced tracks and albums for numerous Asian artists. His own musical style spans a wide variety of genres, blending rock, blues, jazz, and funk.
=== Major touring and collaborations === Kung has served as the backbone for some of the highest-grossing tours in Asian pop history. From 2001 to 2006, he served as the drummer for "Hann", led by guitar legend Paul Wong, releasing six studio albums and touring extensively across Southeast Asia.
As a principal drummer, he has performed on several tours. These include Jacky Cheung's Guinness World Record-setting 'Light Years World Tour,' Eason Chan's 'DUO World Tour,' Faye Wong's final year-long tour, and Nicholas Tse's 'Evolution Tour'—notable for making Tse the first Asian artist to perform a four-night residency at the new Kai Tak Stadium.
